The Moriah Institute Rites of Passage training for Youth Leaders:
This training program is designed to explore key elements of designing youth development programs that are created through an examination of the importance rites of passage in adolescent maturation. Students will examine history of rites of passage in the United States, study resources for developing contemporary rites of passage experiences for youth and learn how to start a rites of passage program. The overall objective of this course is to help students gain a greater awareness of personal, societal, economic, religious/spiritual and historical dimensions of rites of passage that impact youth development.

Rites of Passage Program for Youth
The Rites of Passage program is open to young people in grades 10 - 12. We are guided by the Old Testament, wisdom literature of Proverbs teaches that one should train a child the way he/she should go. Rites of Passage will encourage youth to explore spiritual values and family values as they relate to the society at large
The program will provide several leaning experiences that will include:

  • Workshops and trips about career choices
  • College visits
  • Workshops on self-respect and responsibility in family and personal relationships
  • Practice and care for community
  • Considerations for effective use of leisure time
  • Coping skills for new school settings, and the work place
  • CPR training
  • Special challenge experiences

The Moriah Institute Sexuality and Spirituality Series Workshops

The Time To speak
The Time To speak three-day seminar is a learning intensive designed for groups of individuals who work in parish ministry. It is designed to increase knowledge of sexuality, probe biblical teaching and explore feelings and attitudes that impact teaching practices, behavior, and counseling. This learning series is ideal for parish education courses and institutional retreats. This seminar is available for adults who work with adults, adults who work with adolescents and there is special component for youth leaders who work with their peers. Participants learn through group discussions, initiatives, reading assignments, journal writing, and lecture presentations.

Sexuality and Ministry Course for Seminarians
This course is designed to explore issues of human sexuality particularly as it relates to those who are preparing for parish ministry. Students will examen biblical texts related to sexuality, study pastoral concerns, and learn how to use internet and other resources for information and referral sources. The overall objective of this course is to help students gain a great awareness of personal, societal, religious/spiritual, and historical sexuality issues that impact pastoral leadership.

The Program begins in Nov. 11- May, 2007. Registration is limited and starts October 1, 2005.
