During the last 16 years Ms. Mitchell has worked for a global organization that implements programs
that support women and children in need, especially in the areas of education, health, immunization,
HIV and AIDS and emergencies (natural disasters and war/conflict). She currently
heads a team in the Programme Funding Office at UNICEF, which has given her an opportunity to
increase her experience in the areas of
contributions management and resource mobilization.
Ms. Mitchell is also part of a joint team of workshop facilitators at the United Nations for the,
HIV in the Workplace Orientation
Project, designed to promote screening, healthy lifestyles and support to employees and their families
on issues related to HIV and AIDS.
Prior to joining UNICEF, Ms. Mitchell worked for Trans World Airlines, Union Settlement House,
the James Weldon Johnson Community
Center and ENTER Inc in East Harlem, NY. She holds a M.Ph. Degree from Hunter College and a BA
from Fordham University in New York.
Ms. Mitchell is a sports enthusiast who has completed five NY City Marathons. She is a divorced
mother of two adult children whom
she credits with increasing her capacity to love and understand the power of commitment,
relationships and community.
Her experience of raising them in the South Bronx, along with a strong family foundation
rooted in South Carolina, and belief in God,
has been the formula for her success, growth and development. She believes that the
spiritual legacy she received from her parents'
and grand-parents' good example of helping and serving others, is a treasure that
continues to generate new opportunities, energy
and inspiration for the challenges ahead.
